Aging-in-Place Design is a family affair.

"So here's the deal...never in a million years did I think I would need to reach out to an "aging in place" specialist as a 40-something..."

A friend and now client of ours Kimbley Craig came to us with unfortunate news that her mother had a very serious fall and was now confined to a wheelchair. She realized very quickly that the bathroom in their home "HAD to be redone" as her mother "certainly didn't have the capability (or the dexterity) to step over a tub".

"They came in and gave recommendations for small changes that our family could make, and also gave recommendations for ease of access throughout the home".

Our recommendations are time tested concepts we incorporate into all our designs because simply put they make sense functionally and esthetically, many of which you probably wouldn't recognize as Aging-in-Place. Check out these examples of simple solutions for aging that look beautiful!

In the Bathroom: Curbless shower, heated bench & hand wand, widened doorways, LED lighting and single lever faucets.

“Don't let your home dictate what you can and cannot do everyday.” - John Lewis

"They have literally changed my parents lives, with the work they've done to make my parents living quarters more manageable and comfortable."

Thank you Kimbley for your trust and for sharing your experience with us. Change Your Space. Change your life. is not just a slogan, it's our creed.

"Big improvements and showcases the company we now are.” - Tammy Lewis, Lewis Builders CAO

From clients to trade partners to the office team, the focus of the new site was user experience and our goal was to maximize this valuable tool and increase engagement.

For clients the new design is portfolio forward showcasing completed projects and plans to build. For Trade Partners it's a resource for how to get involved; and for our office team it's now a easy way to gather the information needed from both.

3D Technology for Home Build/Design

One of our Core Values is to Innovate. In that effort we are now utilizing Matterport 3D camera technology in house to design and market our work.

Take a virtual tour...from the comfort of your own home! Using the arrow keys on your desktop or by tapping and dragging on your mobile device you can virtually walk through a space.

The scans we produce also allows our design team to take measurements of anything with 99% accuracy and revisit the space as many times as they like without inconveniencing the home owner. We will be utilizing this technology at the beginning and end of every project. Imagine walking through a home before and after!

A Mid-Century Eichler is Reborn

We are very excited to announce our project on Carmelo and Thirteenth is complete...and on the market!

Joseph Eichler was a renowned architect in the 50s and 60s who was known for his clean, open, mid-century modern designs. But even an architect whose work was ahead of it's time could use an update in the 21st century. That was the challenge; keep the design esthetics of Eichler but update the look, feel and function of the 60s designed home.

“We wanted to use clean, simple lines and natural elements such as wood and to add a warmth and softness to the space,” said Lewis, who calls the design “organic contemporary.” “We honored Eichler’s design by keeping many of the main esthetics in place." - John Lewis

John and the team added a hallway, along with a slight bump out to the back that made three bedrooms out of two. Kitchen, living, dinning, and foyer were all opened up with windows and skylights to bring the outdoors in.

Want to know the latest trends in homebuilding?

So do we! So we sent the team to Design and Construction Week in Las Vegas. Click above to watch our video from the show floor for a better look at the products and trends our team was drawn to (it's short, we promise)!

Here are just a few of the our favorite takeaways we're sure to see in our future projects....

Smart home technology

Smart home technology is not just for sound and lighting anymore. It's now integrating into water temperature and flow, heating and cooling, keyless entries and fireplaces...and we're finding it's possible to integrate them all into one app.

Gold is the new black...and so is black!

Gold and matte black hardware as well as mixing metals are all trending. A favorite vendor Emtek even had a mix and match display of their hardware. Our designers having a true, hands on understanding of the product not only inspires but also aids in the client decision making process.

We like big doors and we can not lie.

Change your space. Change your life is our mantra and a big door is an immediate way to do just that! Our CEO John Lewis advises sliders over accordion (three panels or more) and you guessed it, automation is available to open and close all by themselves...up to 12 panels! Larger doors are making their way into kitchen appliances as well.
